February BOTM: Crazy Love by Francis Chan

Crazy Love helped me realize my love for God was all talk. I realized that I didn’t truly understand the extent of what God has done for me. I realized that I was satisfied with my Christian life. I have become comfortable. Then I read this, “They (lukewarm people) feel satisfied that while they aren’t as hard-core for Jesus and so-and-so, they are nowhere as horrible as the guy down the street (Page 72).” “Their love is highly conditional and very selective (Page 73).” Then after I considered this a while and decided that I had become lukewarm. After this I was challenged with the question if my life would change at all or look any different if I was not a follower of Christ. I thought about it and there were a few things.. I would probably use some bad language, I might wear a bikini, and  my shorts might be a little shorter. Is this really the question though? Do these things matter as much as my heart matter? Is my heart changed because of my relationship with Jesus Christ? DO I have a relationship with Jesus Christ or do I simply know about Him? THEN, I was confronted with yet another problem – the issue of love. “How would my life change if I actually though of each person I came into contact with as Christ (116).” Would I dare talk about Christ “behind his back?” Would I dare to not obey immediately? If I met Christ in person I would like to think I would do everything perfect for Him.. He says that the way I treat the worst of these it is as I am treating Him that way.

My challenge for myself this month is to act as though God is real in my life. To love others, as I would love Christ. If I come away unchanged I am fooling myself.

January Book of the Month: ESV Study Bible

Hello Friends!

Do you remember the post I did back in December? I told you all I was going to be buying a christian book a month and using it in my devotions. For January I bought myself a new bible because mine was falling apart and I wanted an “adult” bible. I was tired of the light notes in my teen bible and wanted more depth. I chose the  ESV Study Bible, Personal Edition because my youth leaders wife had recommended it to me and I already knew I liked the ESV translation. I felt it was accurate and easier to read but It was still true to the original meaning.

As for the bible itself, the cover is sturdy. However, the words are very tiny. If you have trouble with that, I recommend getting the regular one or even the large print.  The personal size is fairly light but it still contains all the information you could ever want. There is cross referencing, study notes, maps, etc. I find the study notes helpful because they are mostly objective and just explaining what words mean or explaining context.

I will be back soon with a review on Crazy Love by Francis Chan.

January 5th, 2015

Hello Friends!

The New Year came in with a POW. Literally.  For those of you who don’t know – I coach gymnastics! I coach levels 3 and 4. Injuries come with the job. I have been smack in the face, kicked in the shins, and I trip over mats all the time.  Monday I got nailed in the nose! I ended up in the emergency room with a broken nose. I’m currently healing from that. Ive got quite cute (sarcasm) swollen cheeks, and my nose is a little swollen and crooked! Ill be getting that fixed the end of this week at the ENT. The whole reason I am telling you all this is because my New Years Resolutions are put on hold a bit. I am not allowed to be bending over or laying down for this week. For this reason, there is very minimal working out for me!  Obviously, I have to be careful not to have it bumped so I am out of work for a week or so. Yesterday was my recovery day and today I’m taking it slowly as well.

I hope everyone is having a good week!

January Reading Plan

Hello My Friends!

This month I received my new bible! I had, had my last one for a few years and it was completely falling apart. Part of my New Years resolution was to have devotions daily. I knew that if I didn’t have a plan, I was setting myself up for failure. I decided that the book of John was a good place to start! I have completed three days of the plan thus far!

30 Day Reading Plan

Prayer for the Hurting

This season has been hard. Not physically, but mentally and emotionally. I fell overwhelmed with change and loss. This prayer is not only for myself but all those who are hurting. Those who have lost loved ones, those who have lost jobs, those who feel hopeless. This is my prayer for me, for you, for us.

Dear Lord,
I pray for the hurting tonight.
For the ones tucked under their sheets sobbing.
I pray for the girl who feels lonely and overwhelmed with change.
I pray for peace. I pray for your grace to be made obvious to them.
I pray for love. Love shown in an overwhelming and powerful way that only you can give.
I pray you would allow me to see that I don’t know the whole situation.
Help me to allow you to take control. Help me to use this to strengthen me. Don’t let us be swept away.
Hold us.
Hold me Lord.
Give me a spirit of strength.
Help me.
Help us , because we cannot do this alone.

In Jesus Name I pray, Amen.
